As I said in my last post, it is very difficult to show you the awesome, amazing creatures of Raja Ampat. I have shown you an overview, but there is so much more to see…
Let’s start with the smallest creatures: pygmy sea horses. Sadly, my Gopro can’t film them, and being somewhat near-sighted, I can’t see them very well even if my dive guide can find them. Next time, I’ll bring a magnifier lens…
But there are other beasties a bit larger, like the Mandarin Fish. Colorful little gems which live just under the neighboring pier at the dive resort, they come out at sunset to have parties in among the coral rubble:
I believe they also qualify as being very cute.
Next up in size and cuteness are the baby Blacktip Sharks here. Grown up, they lose a bit of that cuteness, however:
And even bigger, the weirdos of the Reef: Wobbegongs, i.e. Tasseled Carpet Sharks. Opinions may differ, but I think they are unbelievably cute when they lounge around, unshaven and slightly drowsy. The last one in this film is sharing the hollow with his friend the Moray Eel:
And ever since Flipper was on TV, everybody loves cute Dolphins. Probably because they have that fixed grin on their faces. For all we know, they might be very grumpy individuals… but on the other hand, they do have fun jumping out of the water, all the time…wherever they are going.
