So, on the road again. My first flight of the year transported me to Bangkok, City of Angels, Metropolis, giant permanent traffic jam. The taxi ride, in the middle of the morning rush hour, to the hotel in Sukhumvit, took 2 hours. After that exertion, all I could do yesterday was take a look around and then a longish nap. However then I spent the warm and pleasant evening on the rooftop terrace, having the first Thai dinner and enjoying the view.
Chicken with Chili and Cashews
Rooftop pool and view.
Today I still felt the jet lag. Recently I discussed with a friend the problem of motivating one’s lazy ass to actually get up and do something. Well today that wasn’t easy at all. But in the end, I managed to leave the hotel and explore various possibilities to get around the City.
The small canal boats, for example.
I changed boats once and ended up somewhere near the royal palace, where a giant area was fenced in and roads closed to facilitate memorial events for the late Thai king. Further on I found the Chao Praya river, and boarded a slightly larger boat to Central Pier, then the Metro back to Sukhumvit.
Not too bad for a lazy jetlagged day…
However, navigating was easy. Luckily, I didn’t have to take a bus… here is a typical display:
Next: Flight to Denpasar, Bali and boat to Lembongan. I’ll have to get up at 01:30am… sigh.
