Half way through my two months of traveling, I hopped over to Australia – after all, it’s just a bit to the south and east of Bali. There were urgent reasons… I desperately had to have my finger nails done in a civilized environment. Diving is great, but all that soaking in salt water, and clawing neoprene while struggling into uncooperative wetsuits does terrible things to gel nails.
Other important reasons were
- to visit my friends Lynn and Chris, who grow cocoa and make amazing chocolate near Mission Beach Qld
A bunch of cocoa beans drying in the sun, after fermentation. For some days I helped turn them so they get the sun and air on all sides. Other days I worked as a drug courier, transporting the finished product, which does contain Theobromine, to some dealers. All perfectly legal, of course.
I am eternally grateful to my friends for putting up with me, providing safe drinking water, a washing machine, and a peaceful stay in their beautiful tropical garden.
- and to dive the Yongala, an amazing wreck new Ayr QLD. AFTER Alina reinforced my nails.
The 30 minutes ride to the wreck was a bit rough, but fun. Once we had arched the wreck, there were strong currents both at the surface and below. Going down along the cable…
Among all the beauties, this cowtail ray was outstanding:
